About

An independent disclosure project

The Transparent AI Index is published and maintained by ChangeEnable, an Austin-based advisory firm. It is not funded by any AI lab and accepts no compensation tied to grade outcomes.

Why this exists

Roughly two and a half billion queries are sent to ChatGPT alone each day. The energy and water consumed by each one is invisible to the person making the query. If users could see the environmental cost of a prompt the way they can see calories on a menu, behavior would shift. They cannot, so it does not. Closing that gap is a disclosure problem before it is a technology problem.

Who maintains it

The Index is maintained by Corey Segall, CEO of ChangeEnable. ChangeEnable is an advisory and consulting firm focused on change enablement, agentic AI strategy, and capital raise advisory. The Index is a research project of the firm, kept editorially separate from client engagements.

Independence

No AI lab funds, sponsors, or has editorial input into the Index. Grades are determined solely against the published rubric. When grades change, the previous grade is preserved in the public history with the date and triggering source. The intent is a living instrument: if a lab moves from F to C in response to public pressure, that movement is itself the most important signal the scorecard can produce.

How grades change

Grades are reviewed quarterly and updated whenever a lab publishes new disclosures. Any lab named in the Index may request a correction via the corrections form. Corrections are evaluated against the rubric, logged with date and outcome, and reflected in the next published version.
